Ter Duinen - Ossendrecht

On the border of high and low, and just a little over the border

With this particularly varied day trip, you will get to know a very striking
landscape, the Brabantse Wal. The high, forest-covered sandy soils suddenly
transition into the lower sea clay polders. The most striking feature is the steep
ridge, a monument of geological value. The steep ridge meanders between
Ossendrecht, along Woensdrecht, to beyond Bergen Op Zoom. This was where
the Scheldt and the sea used to reach. From this high ridge, the walker enjoys
wonderful views over the Polders.
In the first part of the walk, you will set out through the higher heathland and
wooded areas of the nature reserve Grenspark de Zoom/Kalmthoutse Heide. In the
second part, you will make the transition from high to low and will be treated several
times to a short but sturdy climb of the steep ridge. In the end, there is an Ardennes-like
and fairy-tale path through the woods, including babbling brooks that you need to wade or jump over. Fortunately, they are not very deep, but it can be muddy. You will be walking on
unpaved paths and roads for more than 90%. Walking poles are not a luxury.
