The start is at Erenstein Castle behind GaiaZoo and runs directly into the Groene Lung of Kerkrade. We leave Kerkrade through the Cranewijer and along the beautiful reservoir to cross the rest of the 'park' of this regional 'city'. This region is now called Parkstad, while it used to be the Eastern Mining Region. From 'black to green' was the ambitious plan to replace the mining industry with a green living environment after the closures.
This route goes through various green areas and also shows what is left of the mining industry and what has been replaced.
