Kempers' Walking Route Church Paths Geesteren (Achterhoek)

Beautiful walking loop around Geesteren in the Achterhoek over partly the old church paths, which led from the neighborhoods to the church. It starts and ends at Restaurant Baan, near the church. Across from Baan is a small parking area. Little to no cars on the way.

The parish of Geesteren was part of the Diocese of Münster and was an important church for the entire area. The Lords of Borculo worshipped here and used the Rotmansdiekse. The residents of Havezate Mensinck, also known as Botshuijs, took the 'Kerkpad' to Geesteren.

The old routes that still exist, or parts of them - see also the additional image under 'Route information':

- Rotmansdiekske for the people coming from Borculo.

- Kerkepad for the people from the neighborhood Nederbiel.

- The last section of the Riethorstdijk, further continuing along the Hagensweg. This path started at Oosterveldweg 15, between the barn and the house!

- There used to be a church path on the Es as well, parallel to and between the Esweg and the Boerenesweg. This path came out on the Meiweg, where there’s still a thick row of alders. The current path 'Engelskamp' now runs the entire length of the Es. Deliberately, this route has been chosen in the direction of Geesteren, always with a view of the higher situated church, to momentarily take you back to that time.
