Description by the author

Last updated: 14 November 2022. The route has been completely adjusted so that the share of gravel roads has increased from 29% to just under 52%.

Please note: on 8 November 2022, the Limburg Water Board started work on the mouth of the Molenbeek from Lottum into the Meuse. The gravel cycle path along the Siebersbeek (which flows into the Molenbeek) is therefore not accessible for several months, follow the local detour for cyclists.

The route departs from the parking lot of Mart Roeffen (a playground in the woods near Grubbenvorst) and goes clockwise.

You cycle almost immediately on gravel roads through nature reserves Houthuizerheide, Hanenbergerheide and Swolgender Heide to Swolgen. Then you get an alternation of asphalt roads and gravel paths, including along an old Maasarm (Schuitwater near Meerlo). The route continues on gravel roads around Meerlo (through the forests of the Meerlose Heide) towards Landgoed Geijsteren. You then cycle on gravel path / forest road to the Rosmolen (an idyllically situated watermill) in Landgoed Geijsteren.

Then you cycle about 4 kilometers on asphalt roads via Wanssum towards Meerlo. From then on it will be an alternation of gravel roads and asphalt roads along the Maas and along old Maasarmen, where you cross nature reserve 't Sohr. Please note: you cross an old Maasgeul twice, the road can flood here after longer rainy periods!

Partly via gravel roads you cycle through nature reserve Schuitwater (an old Maasarm) towards Lottum. At Lottum you reach the Maas again and cycle past Borggraaf Castle. South of Lottum you get mainly gravel roads and gravel cycle paths for the wheels, sometimes directly along the Meuse. Only at Grubbenvorst itself do you end up on asphalt roads again. After passing Grubbenvorst, another almost two kilometer long gravel strip follows and then you are quickly back at the final destination.
