Euregio walking route No. 25 loop Via Belgica through Cranenweyer

A circular walk of part of the original Via Belgica long distance route with a loop through the nature reserve of Limburgs Landschap: the Cranenweyer.

After two thousand years you can walk the Via Belgica and its Roman highlights again. The Romans are still puzzling us as to the exact route, but they have left quite a few traces. During this long distance route you will experience Roman South Limburg, as the Roman soldiers did centuries ago. The Via Belgica is an old Roman road that ran from Boulogne sur-Mer in France to Cologne in Germany. On that route, the Via Belgica crosses South Limburg. She enters our country at Maastricht and leaves the Netherlands at Rimburg. The presence of this great Roman road has had a great impact on the surrounding area.

This route is signposted via special black Via Belgica signs. You start at the station square in Maastricht and can then walk from station to station via five routes.
