Description by the author

The route starts in De Lutte and you follow the hands of the clockwise. First you cycle through slightly hilly terrain south of De Lutte, on quiet and winding roads with some climbs. The route then goes over the Paaschberg and the Tankenberg via the Alleeweg (the highest point in Overijssel with 85 meters above sea level).

Then follow a part through former peatland and you cycle to Ootmarsum where the ascent of the Kuiperberg follows (note: you cycle into a dead end road that is accessible to cyclists, but at the end goes over a distance of 30 meters over gravel). Be sure to visit the picturesque Ootmarsum.

Around Ootmarsum there are a few more climbs and the route then goes towards Vasse where you climb the Galgenberg (narrow concrete cycle path along sandy road). By the way, you can turn right directly when entering Vasse into the Hooidijk to skip the Galgenberg (if you are not served by narrow cycle paths with a chance of recreational bicycle traffic, the route will then be 5 km shorter and about 30 altimeters will disappear). Then follows the ascent of the Hooidijk-west and then you enter Germany: the border crossing goes over a narrow asphalted cycle path that turns into a two-track concrete track with grass tiles in between. The ridge around Ootmarsum continues here in Germany and is called the Uelsener Berge. Here you climb the Lönsberg and the Geteloweg.

Back in the Netherlands you cycle past Landgoed Singraven, the river Dinkel, over the Austieberg and through nature reserve Lutterzand.

Because the route goes a number of times on a narrow cycle path (Galgenberg, border crossing Bouwmansweg, in Uelsen near the sports park), the route is not suitable for large groups. The roads are of good quality and quiet in terms of traffic. Just like in South Limburg, you will find many Maria chapels along roads. However, the climbs in this area cannot compete with those in South Limburg. But it is an area with very beautiful landscape in Twente with all those Saxon farms, green meadows and forests and hedgerows. The landscape in Germany looks less well-kept and larger-scale than in the Netherlands.
