Description by the author

Vincent van Gogh was born in Zundert on 30 March 1853. On the site of the Vincent van Gogh House stood the old presbytery of the Dutch Reformed Church. Vincent lived here until he was sixteen. Get on your bike and discover the origins of Vincent's personality and artistry.

During this Van Gogh cycle route you can first get acquainted with the six Van Gogh Monuments in Zundert. You cycle through a picturesque landscape, via the Markdal and along the river De Mark towards Breda and then through some hamlets towards Etten-Leur. This route does not go directly into the city centers. You can of course consider following the Van Gogh cycle route to Etten-Leur or Breda.

Back to Zundert you will pass through the Pannenhoef nature reserve. Here, eleven drained fens have been excavated and brought back to life, with historical names such as 'de Flesch', 'Hazemerenven', 'de Lokker' and 'de Bak'. Pure nature, as Vincent must have seen. In the center of Zundert (near the Van GoghHuis and the church) and in the Pannenhoef (near the Zwarte Schuur) there are informative audio columns.

"Nature always begins to resist the teekenaar, but if he who takes it seriously does not allow himself to be upset by this opposition, on the contrary it is all the more incentive to overcome, and in the ground nature and a resurrected teekenaar agree."
Vincent van Gogh in a letter to his brother Theo, Etten, between 12 and 15 October 1881
