Description by the author

Vincent van Gogh has never been to 's-Hertogenbosch. He lived and worked in cities such as Tilburg, The Hague, Amsterdam, Brussels, London, Antwerp and Paris. Especially in London and Paris he was amazed. When he arrived in London in 1872 to work in the art trade, he immediately bought a top hat in his early twenties. He has also painted urban scenes, such as the nightlife in Montmartre in Paris.

's-Hertogenbosch has a rich history dating back to the year 1185. Within the city walls, 's-Hertogenbosch has largely retained its medieval structure. It is a beautiful fortified city full of monuments, but it is also the city of contemporary art, high-tech companies, hip concept stores, trendy fashion shops, beautiful boutiques, cozy pubs, tasteful restaurants, the Binnendieze and a multitude of art and culture.

This Van Gogh cycle route starts at Het Noordbrabants Museum. If you are standing with your back to the entrance, turn right. Cycle through the Verwersstraat, which turns into the Oude Dieze. From junction 84, pick up the cycle route (cross to the Pettelaarseweg and then turn right into the Sterrebosweg. Follow this towards junction 63.

On the route you take a piece of the cultural-historical backdrop of the city, but in no time you will be immersed in the breathtaking nature around Den Bosch, Vught, Esch, Boxtel and Sint-Michielsgestel. You will pass the nature reserves De Moerputten and the Vughtse Heide, National Monument Camp Vught, recreation area de IJzeren Man and the nature reserve Bossche Broek.

'I'm still doing well here in Brabant, at least I find nature here very exciting.'
Vincent van Gogh to Antoine Furnee (a painter's friend from The Hague), Nuenen, January 1884
