The Ossengoor
In the Chaamse Bossen lies the beautiful fen the Ossengoor (goor = soggy), which has long been used as pasture, but has now been under water for years. Flora and fauna change as a result, because disappeared plant species return. Just like waterfowl, dragonflies and damselflies that feel at home in the shallow water. The fen can be reached via the Geuzenpad (sandy path) in Gilze. You cross the Nieuwe Maastrichtsebaan (asphalt) and walk into the forest. About 300 meters further on the left is the Ossengoor. Do put on boots or waterproof shoes

Gilze is one of the oldest villages of the Barony of Breda. In the 2nd world war, the village suffered a lot, because of bombing of the nearby German airfield. The church tower was blown up in 1944 and the spire was never rebuilt. This circular walk leads you through the countryside around the village and through the Chaamse Bossen.
