This route largely avoids the busy South Limburg and seeks the edges of South Limburg (Plateau van Doenrade, Brunssummerheide, Plateau van Orsbach, the Voer region, western South Limburg). That does not mean there will be little climbing; on the contrary: you will face many ascents on the bike, but a large part of the climbs will be unknown to most cyclists.

The route starts in Genhout and follows a clockwise direction. You first descend the Hobbelrade and after passing Spaubeek, you climb the steep Stammenderbos. You descend via Slakweg and cycle to Schinnen. Just past the Alfa brewery, you climb the car-free Mulderswegske. The route then leads to Oirsbeek and you leave the village via the ascent of the car-free Douvenderweg. The route descends to Amstenrade (past Amstenrade Castle) and then takes you to Brunssum. You are now in Parkstad, the urban area in the east of South Limburg. The passage through Brunssum is only a few kilometers long, and between Brunssum and Heerlen you cycle on a (bumpy but otherwise good) paved bike path through a small nature area. Then you have to cycle another kilometer and a half through a Heerlen neighborhood, and after that you cycle on good asphalt roads (closed to car traffic) and wide concrete bike paths along the Brunssummerheide where you climb the Grote Heiweg and the last part of the Heikop.

The route then briefly goes through Abdisschenbosch (a neighborhood in Landgraaf) and Waubach, to then enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Rimburg in the valley of the Worm. Here you climb the beautiful Hoolgrub and the Hoverveldweg (both car-free). The route then proceeds through Eygelshoven and you climb the Korverberg. You then descend to the beautiful Anstel valley along the only dam lake in the Netherlands and climb the Nieuwe Erensteinerweg. The descent takes you past the beautiful Erenstein Castle. Urban areas are avoided as much as possible, including via the climb of the Hamweg. Eventually, you end up in a neighborhood of Kerkrade (Bleijerheide, via a small climb) but not for long, from here you dive into Germany.

Through the crossing of the brook valley of the Amstelbach, you bike towards Vetschau over partly agricultural roads (roads only accessible for agricultural traffic). Then you climb the Vetschauerberg.
Via Orsbach, you steeply descend into the valley of the Selzerbeek, and via the EK 2000 bike path you come back into the Netherlands in Vaals. You now climb the Drielandenpunt and descend on the Belgian side.

The route now takes you through the Land of Herve to Sippenaeken via the climb to Terstraeten, so you also end up in the Voer region. Here you climb past the beautiful Beusdal castle (Rue de Beusdal). After descending to Teuven, the route goes back into the Netherlands and you climb the Schilberg. Then follows the ascent of the Kütersteenweg. Across the plateau of Margraten, you cycle via Banholt and the ascent of the Bergstraat to Cadier en Keer and after a short descent, the climb of the Bundersberg follows. You bike to Berg and Terblijt (via a short between climb) and descend the steep Brakkeberg. You leave the Geuldal via the climbs of the Vauwerberg and the Kleverberg. Through the plateau of Schimmert you cycle to the hidden village of Kelmond and then you are back in Genhout.
