Ommetje Tommel

Starting points : The three detours can start at junction 54 (on the corner of Nieuwstraat and St. Janstraat) in Baarle-Nassau. Near junction 54 is the Loswal car park and the bus stop for buses to Breda, Tilburg and Turnhout. Ommetje Zondereigen can also start at junction 24 at the St. Rumoldus church in Zondereigen.

Put on your walking shoes and choose one of the three detours Baarle on the border between Belgium and the Netherlands.

Ommetje Tommel 6KM takes you past historic places of Baarle center and Loveren.

Ommetje Tommel takes you past historic places. Baarle-centrum and Loveren are very old. In Loveren the trade routes Antwerp - Den Bosch and Breda - Turnhout crossed each other. At Herberg 'de Zwaan' (with the two house numbers) the stagecoaches stopped. The plaetse Loveren is a triangular square around which farms stood. In three directions field roads led to the fields, the meadows and the heath. Loveren had an annual fair from 1612. You continue walking over medieval open fields and past prehistoric burial fields. Via the hamlet of Tommel (here the triangular 'plaetse' is no longer recognizable) and a former railway that was built in 1867, you come back to the village.
