Jomsom Airport is a domestic airport serving the Mustang District of Nepal .
It serves as a gateway to the Mustang District which includes Jomsom, Kagbeni, Tangbe and Lo Manthang as well as Muktinath Temple which is a popular pilgrimage site for Nepalese and Indian pilgrims.
The only airport serving Jomsom is Pokhara Airport , which is a 20-minute flight away.
The heat of the sun in Mustang district increases the air and draws strong southerly winds through the Kali Gandaki River gorge, resulting in strong winds at Jomsom Airport in the early morning. Clouds, changing visibility and strong winds often lead to flight delays or airport closures. That is why the flights take place early in the morning and the flights go up and down as quickly as possible.
There are very high mountains between Pokhara and Jomsom , including Dhaulagiri (8,167 m) and Tukuche (6,920 m) to the west, and Nilgiri Central (6,940 m) and Annapurna (8,091 m) to the east of the Kali Gandaki River Gorge. This prevents planes from flying over the mountains and it is dangerous for planes to fly through the gorge.
On the other hand, a flight from Pokhara to Jomson is spectacular .
