The most famous legend about the Błędowska desert tells that the desert was created when a devil flew over Błędów with a sack of sand under his arm. He hooked the sack onto the tower of a church, but the sack tore and the sand flowed out over the area, resulting in the enormous desert.
Another legend speaks of the fact that the devils were angry because miners were extracting zinc, lead, and silver from the mines, which they considered their property, and they wanted to cover the mines with sand to thwart the people.
