Vila Jusã is a place and a former municipality in Northern Portugal. Vila Jusã is located on the Rio Douro and is part of the Alto Douro wine region, the first protected wine region in the world, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001.
The oldest records date back to the 12th century when the place was recorded under the name São Martinho de Meison Frigido de Jusano. The first official document of the place is the donation certificate of the local church São Martinho on May 19, 1145, by Portugal's first king D. Afonso Henriques. The geographical proximity to the municipalities of Santa Cristina and São Nicolau often led to conflicts, both among the population and between the local rulers. Since the 12th century, there has been a desire in Vila Jusã to be administered from Mesão Frio, but this was met with rejection there.
