Rua Augusta is a street in the center of the Portuguese capital Lisbon. It runs from Praça do Comércio about 550 meters north to Praça de D. Pedro IV.
Rua Augusta is the central axis of the Baixa Pombalina, rebuilt after the earthquake of 1755 according to plans by Eugénio dos Santos and Carlos Mardel. It was named Augusta by decree on November 5, 1760. This decree also established zones for traders of various goods in the street.
