The construction of the Church of São Dâmaso began in the first half of the 17th century and was not completed until the following century.
The choir has a remarkable altarpiece of gilded woodwork , the work of Pedro Coelho, a woodcarver from Guimarães, and the ceiling is made of coffers. The nave is also decorated with Portuguese-style altarpieces from the late 17th and early 18th centuries. The woodwork matches perfectly with the historic tiles that decorate the interior. They were made in the first half of the 18th century, are attributed to the monogram maker PMP and depict episodes from the life of Pope Saint Damasus .
