Praça Mouzinho de Albuquerque or Campo Novo, located in the parish of São Vicente, was consecrated in 1725 at the initiative of Archbishop Rodrigo de Moura Teles of Braga.
It has had several names such as Praça do Gavião, Bairro da Gavieira, Bairro do Quinteiro, Campo Novo do Reduto and Bairro do Reduto, but its current official name, Praça de Mouzinho de Albuquerque, was given on January 4, 1898, at the suggestion of the then deputy mayor.
In the centre of the square stands a statue of Pedro V of Portugal , erected in 1869 in Campo de Santana and later moved to its current location.
In addition to the garden, the square also has a granite fountain on the north side and the Palacete do Conde de Carcavelos, built in the 19th century and formerly used by the Ministry of Health.
