The Chapel of the Meeting at Emmaus shows the interior of a sunny 18th-century bourgeois house, with Christ at the table, an ornate rocaille-style sideboard and seven other images (two disciples and other family members).
On Easter Sunday , two disciples of the Lord, including Cleophas, were walking from Jerusalem to their home in the village of Emmaus. Suddenly, an unknown pilgrim enters the dialogue and accompanies them.
When the two disciples arrived at Emmaus, as the day was drawing to a close, the two disciples invited their kind companion to spend the night with them, an invitation which was accepted. They went to the table and at a certain point during the meal the strange guest took the bread which he blessed and consecrated. It was at this moment that the secret was revealed. That pilgrim was the Risen Good Jesus , but He mysteriously disappeared.
Outside the chapel at the top of the entrance, an extract from the Bible: «COGNOVERUNT EUM IN FRACTIONE PANIS», translated as «they recognized him in the breaking of bread», representing the sharing of bread with his disciples.
