The Régua Lock (Barragem da Régua) spans a height difference of approximately 30 metres and is one of the largest in Europe.
The Douro River is now navigable thanks to five impressive locks that bridge the difference in altitude between Porto and the Spanish border . The Régua Lock is a popular stop for river cruises. During a cruise, you can witness the ship passing through the lock up close. The process takes about 30 minutes and is a fascinating experience.
