The Ponta de São Lourenço starts with easy wooden steps and boardwalks, but the trail soon winds up steep slopes, offering fantastic views of the Desertas Islands to the south and Porto Santo Island to the north, weather permitting. Along the way, you’ll see both Madeira’s north and south coasts.
At the tip of the peninsula lies “Cais do Sardinha,” the only shady spot with palm trees, perfect for taking a break. Bring your swimwear in summer to enjoy the crystal-clear water. You may also see planes landing at the airport during the hike.
