Slavsk , prior to 1946 known by its German name Heinrichswalde , is a town and the administrative center of Slavsky District in Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia, located 105 kilometers northeast of Kaliningrad, the administrative center of the oblast. Population: 4,614 ; 5,172 ; 4,682 .
The town was established in 1292. From 1466 until 1657 it was a fief of the Kingdom of Poland. In 1819 it became seat of the Prussian Elchniederung district. In 1871 it became part of Germany. According to German data 16,000 Lithuanians lived in the district in 1890 .
