This is the path Napoleon followed as an attempt to invade Russia during the last months of 1812. He started in June 1812 at the Polish-Russian border with 422 000 men. In september 1812, he reached Moscow with only 100 000 men. The city was burned and empty by the residents and the Czar Alexander I. Napoleon and his troops had to walk all the way back when the temperatures dropped to -30 degrees Celsius. Only 10 000 made it back to the Niemen River.
