The Unionsleden is a cross-border route of 350 kilometers, from Moss in Norway to Karlstad in Sweden. The theme is the Union (1814-1905) between Sweden and Norway, which ended a short war between the two countries. You cycle past significant places from history.
The route is at its best in Sweden. Here you cycle along quiet asphalt roads and sturdy gravel paths through beautiful forests, where magical lakes are located. In Norway, you have to occasionally ride along some busier roads, although you can choose the northern loop, which goes more through nature. Along the way, you pass through villages with historic locks and industrial heritage, where you now find museums and creative incubators. There are also reminders of the Vikings.
