Nacka Nature Reserve

Incredible how quickly we find ourselves in the wild nature from the heart of Stockholm. With the green metro line, we arrive in a beautiful nature area in less than half an hour. The hike can easily be started at metro station Björkhagen and ends at metro station Kärrtop.

During the route of over 18 kilometers, we walk past open grassy fields and through dark pine forests. Now and then, we scramble over bare rocks. Along the way, we hear a great spotted woodpecker enthusiastically tapping on a tree trunk.

We take breaks by the lakes we encounter along the hiking route.

Our favorite spot in Nackareservatet is at Sandasjön. This picturesque lake is surrounded by low rocks and majestic conifer trees. On a wooden platform, we rest for a moment, enjoying the silence and the spring sun warming us.

It’s wonderful to find such a desolate landscape so close to the city center. We could stay here for hours.

However, we still have a long distance ahead.

Shortly after, we run into a few Swedish hikers. They spontaneously invite us to refresh ourselves at a spring in the woods. We don’t fully trust it, but you only live once, so we take the plunge. The spring water tastes surprisingly refreshing and is extremely delicious. Incredible that such pure drinking water can be found in the woods.

After this pleasant encounter, we continue our hike with a steady pace. After 6 hours and 16 minutes, we once again reach civilization. Tired but very satisfied.

Nackareservatet is definitely recommended to escape the city hustle and bustle. We are amazed by the impressive natural beauty surrounding Stockholm.
