Tristan da Cunha is is one of the most remote islands in the world. Boats cannot moor there. You have to approach the island with small boats and jump up a concrete pier from a wavy sea. The island is a stratovolcano. Only 7 families live there, so fewer than a few hundred people. All inhabitants, 264 people, descend from 7 couples who once founded their family here. It started with 7 men placing an ad in London newspapers to find 7 women. All inhabitants live in a small village. The island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site .
