Hua Laem can be translated as "Spear Head" or "Sharp Point". It was the northwestern point of the city island of Ayutthaya; in the Ayutthayan Era at the confluence of the Lopburi River and the Bang Kaeo River and in the 19th century after the deviation of the Chao Phraya River, at the confluence of the Chao Phraya and Khlong Mueang - a silted stretch of the old Lopburi River.
