Tha Ruea is a district in the north-eastern part of Ayutthaya Province, central Thailand. The original name of the district was Nakhon Noi. In 1916, it was renamed to Tha Ruea to commemorate an important history within the district. When the hunter Bun found the Buddha's footprint in Sara Buri Province, King Songtham travelled by his royal barge along the Pa Sak River to worship. He docked his royal barge at the territory of the district, and continued his travel on land. This route has since become a royal tradition, as later kings always travelled by this way to worship the Buddha's footprint at Wat Phra Phuttha Bat. The Thai word Tha Ruea means boat landing.
