Wat Tha Sutthawat is located on the east bank of the Chao Phraya River in Ban Bang Sadet (Mu 2) of Bang Sadet sub-district of Pa Mok in Ang Thong Province. The monastery stands opposite the origin of the Bang Luang Canal. The temple is said to date from the Early Ayutthaya period (1350 - 1488 AD). Sources mention that in the Ayutthayan Era during war time, the Siamese armies used to cross the Chao Phraya River in this location. The river must have been shallow at low tide in this spot at earlier times. There is a pavilion along the river bank from which you have a magnificent view of the Chao Phraya River and the origin of the Bang Luang Canal. The temple, which is shaded with large trees, is under the royal patronage of Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. A chedi on the premises exhibits ancient Buddha images and historical relics, while there is also a beautiful pavilion standing in the middle of the pond (a library or Ho Trai?). Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn had her personal painters and drawers from the Royal Folk Arts and Crafts Project draw the mural paintings in the ordination hall.
