The Sri Nakharin Dam is an embankment dam on the Khwae Yai River in Si Sawat District in Kanchanaburi. The main purpose of the dam is water regulation and hydroelectric power generation. The dam's power station has a 720 MW capacity of which 360 MW (2 x 180 NW Francis pump-turbines) is pumped storage. In off-peak hours, the pump turbines return water from the lower reservoir back into the upper reservoir. The construction of the dam, situated on a fault line, began in 1974 and was completed in 1980. The dam is 140 m tall and 610 m long, with a reservoir of 7,470 Mio m3.
