Ho Hem Monthian Thewarat or the Tower of the Golden Palace is a small stone structure in the form of a Khmer-styled prasat built in the reign of King Chulalongkorn in 1880. The shrine, being a Khmer prang, was constructed by Prince Pradit Worakan in accordance with King Chulalongkorn's command. The structure was dedicated to King Prasat Thong of Ayutthaya, the literal translation of whose name is the King of the Golden Palace, because a miniature Khmer-style tower was discovered here. Rama V had the shrine built because of a promise he made when hearing of the fatal accident of the boat of his Queen, praying the Crown Prince Maha Vajirunnahit would be safe.
