Wat Chedi Yai, or the Monastery of the Large Chedi, is a restored temple ruin situated in the southwestern area of Ayutthaya's city island in the Pratu Chai Sub-district in a communal area called Somdet Phra Sri Nakharin Park, which is part of the Ayutthaya Historical Park. The restored chedi is situated west of Wat Ubosot, southeast of the restored temples Wat Sangkha Thae and Wat Sangkha Tha, and north of the now-defunct Wat Kaeo. The ruin is easily seen from the road parallel to Khlong Chakrai Yai.
Its large bell-shaped chedi characterises Wat Chedi Yai. This structure has a ring of missing bricks on its outer layer, showing how it had been expanded over time. There are traces of a moat around this monastery, which can still flood with water during the rainy season. Wat Chedi Yai was most likely built during the middle Ayutthaya period. Little is known about its history. There are no other monastic structures in situ at this monastery.
