Mueang Phrom or the City of Brahma was founded by King Borommaracha I (r. 1370-1388) at the same time as Mueang Indra (In Buri). The ancient city was located in the vicinity of present Wat Amphawan in Phrom Buri District along the Chao Phraya River. Later the center of the city was moved to Pak Bang Muen Han and to the north side of Wat Phromma Thephawat. In 1895, during the reign of King Chulalongkhorn, Phrom Buri was included into Monthon Krungkao (later renamed Monthon Ayutthaya) in 1895. It was later downgraded to a district within the province of Sing Buri.
