Wat Ban Pang

Description

The Buddhist temple of the village of Ban Pang was initially called Wat Chom Sari Saimun Bunruang and was located in the village. Later, the temple was rebuilt on the hilltop near the village led by Kruba Srivicahi, a highly revered Buddhist monk in northern Thailand.

When Kruba Srivichai passed away on 21 February 1938, at the age of 60, his body was retained in the temple for one year before it was later given a royal cremation on 21 March 1946 at the royal temple of Wat Chamma Thewi in Lamphun. The pavilion where Srivichai‘s relics were enshrined for one year is an open building with a square roof in five tiers. It is, therefore, an important historical building and has been preserved and restored. [Source: Information board in situ]
