The area of Konya is one of the granaries of Turkey. In the vicinity of Konya, a lot of water is pumped from the subsoil and used for agriculture. This creates underground cavities. And now and then a cavity collapses, creating gigantic holes and pits on the Earth's surface, better known as sinkholes . If this occurs in the middle of a field, it is usually without danger, but in inhabited areas this is a perilous problem.
