Machame Camp is also known as Machame Hut because of the wooden ranger hut (formerly an ironworks) located there.
Nevertheless, you can only stay in tents . The cabin is a toilet. Machame Camp is only used for climbers returning via the Mweka to Mweka Gate route.
Since the camp is still in the rainforest, it rains a lot . But it is reasonably sheltered from the wind. The distance to the nearest camp, Shira Camp, is 5 km, a good 4 hour walk.
