Have you heard of the " Sabbath elevator "? It is a type of elevator that is frequently found in the Jewish neighborhoods of Brooklyn with high-rise buildings. The reason is as follows. According to an orthodox Jewish rule, you are not allowed to use elevator buttons on the Sabbath. This rule is based on the principle of avoiding labor on the day of rest. According to Jewish law, lighting or extinguishing fires, including electrical appliances, is forbidden on the Sabbath. In order to still be able to use elevators without violating the Sabbath rules, a special provision has been made. The Sabbath elevator automatically stops at every floor during the Sabbath.
