Did you know that the famous neighborhood Brooklyn is named after Breukelen in the Netherlands? Breuckelen in New York was founded in 1646 under director Willem Kieft. The town grew to become the main settlement of the five Dutch villages in Brooklyn, with the administration for the villages that did not have their own government, and a schout for all five villages. Breuckelen is the name giver to the borough of Brooklyn in New York City. The original Brooklyn is now known as Brooklyn Heights.
