Did you know that there was a link between this Statue of Liberty and Belgium. In the Wiertz Museum in Brussels, you can admire a sculpture by artist Wiertz that might remind you of this Statue of Liberty, which would not be a coincidence according to the wonderful Canvas curiosa program. There they searched for the link between this statue of Wiertz and the famous Statue of Liberty in New York by Bartholdi. Who was inspired by whom? Apparently there would be Belgian influences in the Statue of Liberty and Bartholdi would have been inspired by the Belgian Wiertz.
