Dupont Circle is the top left point of streetpattern in Washington representing a pentagram. Some see in this symbol the work and hand of the Freemasons in Washington.
The architect, Pierre Charles L''Enfante, who was a Freemason, laid out Governmental Center of Washington, D.C., in 1791. The streetpattern he designed in the Governmental Center displays certain occultic Masonic symbols.
In 1882, Congress renamed the circle to "Dupont Circle", and authorized a memorial statue of Samuel Francis Du Pont, in recognition of his service as a rear admiral during the Civil War.
