This is the village where the "Legend of Sleepy Hollow", writtten by Washington Irving, took place. The village was called North Tarrytown, but they rightfully thougth that renaming it into Sleepy Hollow would get them more tourists.
One of the main characters was Katrina Van Tassel (Texel), based on a real person, Eleanor Van Tassel, a person of Dutch orrigin, more precisely the island of Texel in the Netherlands.
Also the mother of the author Washinton Irving, was of Dutch origin.
