For stockmarkets, getting information early has always been essential. Therefore, a telegraph line was set up from Wall Street to Sandy Hook Lighthouse to Navesink Highlands to tramsmite but especially receive messages. It was the beginning of the 19th century. The telegraph was not an electric one but one made of wooden beam semaphores, invented by the Frenchman La Chappe.
