In order to control trade on the important Hudson River, the West Indies Company or WIC, built-up call set calls New Amsterdam here. But the colony was threatening by Indians and attacked by the British. The WIC built a wall here to defend themselves. That wall is the name of one of the most famous streets in the world: Wall Street. The wall is marked on the map from Jacques Cortelyou, General Governor of New Amsterdam at that time.
