As far as physical determinism can be stretched, the correlation between Cretaceous ages rock and the results of the presidential elections in 2016 is a pretty impressive one. A map plotting the areas where Hillary Clinton (Democrat in blue on the map) shows a clear overlap with the Cretaceous aged rocks. Lewis Darnell explains that the link is cotton. Rocks of the Cretaceous period in this area created soils perfect for farming cotton. These cotton farms used slaves, whose descendants favor liberal politicians.
