Henry David Thoreau was a great advocate for walking at least a few hours a day. In his cult book "Walking" he argues that we should walk 4 hours a day. That way you stay healthy, both mentally and physically. For Thoreau, the walk itself has no purpose, but the activity of walking itself is a goal. Thoreau sees the walker as a Walker Errant, a king in his own world. According to Thoreau, walkers are chosen and called. They do not pursue a hobby, they only exist in walking.
