It was here on Coney Island that an amusement park opened in 1903. The main attraction of the park was called 'A Trip to the Moon'. The 'spacecraft' that carried the 'moon travelers' was called Luna, hence the name: 'Luna Park'. And that's how our amusement parks got their name.
