WGRZ, virtual channel 2 , is an NBC-affiliated television station licensed to Buffalo, New York, United States. The station is owned by Tegna Inc. WGRZ's studios are located on Delaware Avenue in downtown Buffalo, and its transmitter is located on Warner Hill Road in South Wales, New York.
The station first signed on the air on August 14, 1954, as WGR-TV, owned by the WGR Corporation, along with WGR . Even though WGR was owned by George Rand, the founder of the Remington Rand Company, the call sign did not come from his initials. The call letters had been used on a ship that sunk in 1921 and were assigned to the AM station when it first began broadcasting in 1922.
