Here lived the writer Henry David Thoreau. In her book "The inventor of Nature" Andrea Wulf describes that Henry Thoreau greatly mourned the death of his only brother on his arrival in this cabin on this spot. His brother had died in his arms after a tetanus infection. The writer showed a sympathetic form of his illness and suffered from muscle spasms and lockjaw.
