Parking lots are rarely a place of scientific research. But the Colter Bay parking lot was chosen by biologist Jesse Barber to conduct his experiment with lighting. He changed the 32 street lamps with lamps that could change color. He noticed that white light had a huge impact on the behavior of bats and insects. Red light almost or hardly does that. This had already been established 2 years earlier, in 2019, by Kamiel Spoelstra's Dutch team in Nieuwkoop (Netherlands). They had also already installed bat-friendly red LED lights there.
