The Via Christina is a reconstruction of the route followed by Queen Christina of Sweden during here conversion-journey from Stockholm to Rome in 1656-1656. It is offered as an free add at the (Dutch) book about this historic journey Passage naar Rome by Frans Godfroy.

The Via Christina is divided in nine stages. So the choice is yours: you may follow the queen from Stockholm all the way to Rome, or otherwise you may prefer to follow one or more stages.

Naturally the reconstruction is a compromise between the historic route and the geographic reality of the present. A lot of historic centres of towns and villages are not accessible with motorized vehicles. Sometimes the route leads to parking facilities, sometimes it goes around a centre and you have to find a parking-place by yourself in order to visit the city on foot.

In creating the Via Christina I imagined what motorcyclists crossing Europe would like, but you can make the journey also by car and by motorhome, however there may occure sometimes a narrow street. Be aware that most of the route goes over secondary roads. So if you are in a hurry, forget the Via Christina.

I have to mention that for me it is almost impossible to control or tackle all the problems and unexpected situations on a stretch of more than 4000 kilometers. Your experience may be helpful if you mention those situations. But undoubtedly sometimes you should have to solve these problems by your own inventiveness.
