Routes and places linked to the Royal Canal Greenway. The Royal Canal Greenway was built over 200 years ago to connect the two rivers Liffey and Shannon. The 135km route is the longest greenway in Ireland and starts just outside Dublin. You pass through a landscape with a bit of everything: historic industrial sites, rolling meadows interrupted by stone walls, pretty villages, old bridges and locks, beautiful ruins, cozy pubs and countless places to stop and have a picnic.
